[Fantasy Baseball] Worst Free Agent Ever!

1974 Rich Puig
G: 4
AB: 10
H: 0
BB: 1
SO: 2
BA: .000
OBP: .091
SLG: .000
OPS: .091

Ford Fricks Asterisk : April 23, 2008 11:27 AM

I very briefly had Gene Moriarity. While technically better than Puig, he was 1-for-39, and I just found that 1 to be all the more insulting. Considering he was a .170 hitter in his 53 previous career at-bats, I'm not quite sure what he had done to deserve that long of a leash. I mean did it really take another 39 at-bats to conclude he wasn't going to hit?

With it being 1885, I have to assume it was just a short roster trying to get by. After all, he did rack up those impressive numbers in just 11 games, so he was going to the plate 3 times per game and managed to play 4 different positions.

i had shane halter played in 7 games had no AB hits walks anything but he played 2 games in the outfield and 1 at shortstop

1874 " " (no name - Gavern???)
1 G, 4AB, 1R, 0H, 0W 0.00 AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS

summerteeth : May 6, 2008 06:57 PM

i don't have anyone w/ a .000 batting average, but i have a guy right now (Ben Conroy - 1890) who manage to hit .171 over 404 ABs. that's an impressive feat over 400 ABs.

polmzaq : May 8, 2008 07:29 PM

i got Ernie Lush 1 game 4 AB 1 BB 1 K nothing else only game in the majors

qazerbb : May 9, 2008 02:05 PM

how about this Cap Anson 335BA 21 HR 102 RBI 1st and catcher but i get him as a pitcher 1 game 1 inn 3 hits 2 ER

Ford Fricks Asterisk : May 9, 2008 03:06 PM

The "Cap Anson as pitcher" has to suck. I had the opposite problem, but not nearly as bad. Tony Mullane has been on Whiskeytown's roster from the start... good enough to be my starting shortstop, although I just moved him to the bench a couple minutes ago to see how a comparable free agent I picked up will do. Anyway, if I'd have gotten Mullane as a pitcher--with his 2.24 ERA--he'd still be my #2 or #3 starter.

1931 Jack Crouch -
8G, 12AB, 0H, 1RBI, 4SO

haasdr : June 20, 2008 04:03 PM

i just inherited a guy who has no ABs in 2 games, but did score a run. i'm think of playing him. he never got an at bat in a real game, so why not now a la Moonlight Graham? my only question would be this - would a guy who went 0/0 in RL actually get a hit in the SIM?

franco : June 20, 2008 04:46 PM

It's possible since the pitcher's stats are considered as well. If he faced a pitcher that never gave up a hit than it would be impossible.

haasdr : June 21, 2008 12:34 AM

i let him lead off for a game - 0 for 5 w/ a K. back to the free agent pool soon!

Poor guy. Looks like he might have pinch hit in a game, and pinch fielded in another one. Booted the only play he saw.

he didn't play in 1994, went 0 for 7 in 1995 before finally getting a couple hits for the indians in 1993 - 3 for 12 with 2 HR

Ford Fricks Asterisk : August 14, 2008 02:51 PM

Nigel Wilson was so bad that I remember him... huge disappointment for the Marlins because he was their #1 pick in the expansion draft (I think Colorado picked David Nied first). He was a center fielder blocked by Devon White in Toronto.

Just when everyone had finally forgotten about him, he came up late in '96 with the Tribe and hit a couple pinch-hit home runs... which I think led to him getting a job with a Japanese team.

dbackfan : August 20, 2008 12:06 PM

2004 Andres Torres: 3 games, 0 ABs, 1 run

Chili Davis as a pitcher 2 IP but was perfect in that game

Flem Snopes : August 20, 2008 04:35 PM

then wouldn't that make him the best free agent ever? you know, aside from the fact we still don't have bullpens. actually, looking it up... davis hit a batter, so he wasn't quite perfect. i don't know if that's factored into the simulation, but that'd be great -- a pitcher who's untouchable except that he can't go two innings without beaning someone.
